SCHOOL TALKS: HOW CAN MARTIAL ARTS HELP TEACHERS?

Martial Arts are known for an innate ability to instill important life skills -- such as self discipline, confidence, and respect.
Our instructors believe that a positive  learning environment is pertinent to every child’s development.

 

We are happy to team up with our students' teachers to make an even greater impact!

Our instructors conduct school assemblies and classroom talks. Here are a few of the topics we are prepared to present:
  • ABC's  of  Conflict  Avoidance - Primarily teaches avoidance strategies: Avoid 
    potentially  dangerous  situations; Be  calm and breathe;  Communicate  with  confidence; Don't  make it worse by arguing or fighting. 
  • Stranger Alert (NO-GO-YELL-TELL) - Teaches how to identify a lure and what to do: What is a stranger? There is a difference between niceness and goodness; common lures: Bribery lure; Job lure; Assistance lure; Directions lure; Internet lure; Kids are strangers too. 
  • Five Rules of Personal Safety What to do when confronted (in the schoolyard) and how to resolve the situation peacefully: Use your mind - Create safe habits; Use your words - How to talk to a bully; Use your legs - Chicken versus coward; Ask for help - Tell a teacher/Tell a parent/Tell a friend
  • Having a "Can Do" Attitude - Teaches values and benefits of having the right attitude for success:Having  a  "whatever  it  takes"  attitude;  Having  an  "attitude  of  gratitude; Benefits of being  a  "Good finder". 
  • Creating Good Habits - Teaches practical ways to develop self-discipline, responsibility and focus:  You  don't  have  to  want to do it; you just have to do it, Dinner before dessert; Instant gratification vs. long-term benefits; Always take responsibility for your actions, and Wherever you are... Be there.
  • Classroom Focus Anchors / Self-Control - Teaches practical ways to control and channel energy: Mind over emotion; Body over emotion; Balance over emotion; Words over emotion. 
  • Qualities of Black Belt Excellence - Respect, Courage, Self-control, Self-discipline and Commitment. Emphasizes the benefits of courtesy and respect. Polite greeting; Showing respect; Playground manners; Magic words and how to say them.

SHERMAN OAKS MARTIAL ARTS: PTA/PTO FUNDRAISING 

 

This six-week program entitled  “Skills For School” helps children develop focus, perseverance and learn how to set and attain goals.  We also cover child safety and teach basic non-aggressive self defense skills.  

 

Groups meet twice a week at Sherman Oaks East Valley Recreation Center at 5056 Van Nuys Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. The total price for the program is $75 including a martial arts uniform that we provide at no cost.

 

And, 100% of the funds raised go directly to your *approved organization.
